This 10-hour (5 week) special course is the perfect chance to review, practice, and better digest everything you need to know about verbs in the present tense. More focussed on putting language into practice than traditional grammar courses, here students will concentrate exclusively on proficiency with verbs and reviewing accurate use of present-tense conjugations in more detailed sentences in a variety of social contexts, such as speaking with family and friends about social plans, daily activities, one's profession and hobbies, as well as likes and dislikes. Students will work together on new and sequential materials compiled by the director, with the aim of speaking with increased precision and automaticity, thus increasing comfort and confidence. This course will also build a much stronger foundation for proceeding to future courses such as Advanced Beginner (Beginner 4 or 5) or Pre-Intermediate (1-3).when speaking in more detailed sentences with accurate use of many verbs in the present tense.

This course is designed to bring each individual student to a higher level of comfort and automaticity, and not all students need to have the same end goals. Students will also gain a deeper understanding of proper etiquette in cultural contexts such as cafes, restaurants and stores in Italy.

    Prerequisite: Beginner 2.

    Cost: $200

This course is designed for Advanced Beginner and Pre-Intermediate students who want to practice and consolidate previously learned grammar structures in new contexts to improve automaticity, comfort and confidence! Not sure if you are "ready" for the next level in your sequence? This course is for anyone who wants to better digest important concepts previously introduced (verbs tenses, pronouns, and prepositions), apply them in more spontaneous yet focused communicative situations. Students will expand vocabulary and hone both listening comprehension and speaking skills through a variety of student-centered oral activities in class, and written homework (including mini-compositions) will be assigned for further reinforcement of the material. As always, each session explores aspects of Italian life and culture, and materials will be provided by the instructor. We look forward to building your confidence through this rewarding NEW approach and alternative option to our standard sequential curriculum.

Pre-requisite: Beginner 5 (or permission from the Director)

Students will also distinguish between the present and the present progressive (or gerund) form of verbs, as well as use object pronouns to refer to people, places and things when relaying information. Students will practice making, accepting and refusing invitations, nd discuss the advantages and disadvantages of technology.  Each session incorporates discussion on cultural aspects of Italian life. This course covers Chapters 12-13 in the textbook.

    Course Information:

Classes are offered once per week for ten weeks. Cost: $350

All students are required to hold active ICC memberships. Adult classes are for students who are 18 or older.

Attendance of at least 70% of the classes and passing a test are required to progress to the next level.

Punctuality in arriving at the class starting time is kindly required to avoid class disruptions.

The ICC requires a minimum of 5 students in any group class. When enrollment drops below this number, students are offered the option of remitting a tuition supplement. If all involved students agree to the supplement, the class can materialize. All tuition is due in full before the first class. Class registration is not transferable to another person. All group classes will close after the first week of class, and no new students will be added. No discounts apply to private, semi-private, customized courses or workshops. Cancellations of private or semi-private lessons, made less than 24 hours in advance, will be charged at the normal rate of tuition.

    For online classes:

If you do not receive a Zoom link and class details by the day before your first-class session, please check your spam folder. Language sessions are not recorded for students who miss a class. Active participation is key. Video and audio must be turned on; auditing the class without interaction affects the class dynamic and is ultimately not conducive to learning. Zoom group classes are limited to 8 students per class. However, ICC reserves the right to adjust the number as necessary.

    For in-person classes:

Joining a session via Zoom is not an option. The instructor will send information about the missed class to all students before the following session.

    Refund policy:

Students will receive a full refund of course tuition, less than a $10 registration fee, before the start of the first lesson in the session. Students can withdraw from the course before the second week of class. An administrative fee of $50 will be retained. No refunds will be issued after the second week of group classes.

PLEASE NOTE: Regular class attendance is strongly recommended. If a student must miss class for any reason, s/he will not qualify for reimbursement or an individual makeup class.
