Read Me. Navigating Immigration explores the alienation of being an immigrant in a physical and cultural context. Books serve as dual metaphor for the immigrant condition (fragmentation of identity) and the constancy of a timeless home.
Zoe Cinel is a video maker, multimedia artist and curator from Florence, Italy. In 2015, she received a BFA in industrial and graphic design at Istituto per le Industrie Artistiche, Florence (Italy). She is currently pursuing her Master in Visual Studies at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design while interning at the Minneapolis Institute of the Art in the Media Interactive Department. Her artworks have been featured in, Minnesota and in Florence, Italy: Why not? TEDXMinneapolis, De/Coding MCAD MFA Fall Show, MADE at MCAD 2017, Vinilica 2014 (Florence, Italy). She participated, as a videographer, in performances like 3600 Cuts, by Pramila Vasudevan and Labor Camp and Noche Bomba, by Pedro Lander. She has worked as an independent videographer and photographer, with a focus on documentation, since 2013. Her curatorial practice is focused on collective exhibitions that address current social issues: Trump: Backward-Forward, Gallery 148 at MCAD (February 2017), Transient Structures: Patient Experience and Current Medical Practice, Gallery 148 at MCAD, (September 2017).
Zoe is a feminist and an activist. With her work, she explores performative aspects and vulnerability in Virtual Reality experiences in public spaces. As an immigrant, she is also interested in representing communication issues and cultural shock. Her goal is to build a sense of belonging and community through art and social engagement.
