Celebrate Sicily this January!

Let us warm the cold Minnesota winter by celebrating Sicily and its rich culture.

Join us for an evening of tasting arancini and cannoli - Sicilian traditional savory and sweet foods - and toasting with dry and sweet Marsala, namely the wine that made the Florio family famous in the world.  Our own Vittorio Raimondi will sing traditional Southern Italian songs and we will share the stories of families who emigrated from Sicily to the US.

We will also introduce two novels who have become best sellers in Italy: I leoni di Sicilia e L’inverno dei leoni (Nord 2019 e 2021) translated as The Florios of Sicily (Harpervia 2020) and The Winter of the Lions (forthcoming).  In these two historical novels Stefania Auci reconstructs the history of the Florio family from 1799 to 1950.  The Florio family represents a rare example of Southern Italian entrepreneurship. Later in the spring we will schedule a meeting to discuss these novels for those who are interested in reading them.
The event will be facilitated by Prof. Pieranna Garavaso, ICC's Special Advisor, and Ronald Curran, longtime friend, student and member of ICC.
