Episode 1

Labor of Love: Wine Families of Piemonte

Friday, May 29, 5:30 - 6:30 pm CDT via Zoom

In the dawn of the new millennium, Piemonte bewitched Suzanne HoffmanHer book Labor of Love: Wine Family Women of Piemonte was the product of the spell its people, its landscape, and, of course, its food and wine cast upon her. As someone who has witnessed seismic cultural and economic changes in the world-famous viticultural region, Suzanne styles herself not as a wine expert, but a wine family expert. For over 20 years, she has immersed herself in the familial culture of the Langhe, Roero, and Monferrato wine areas and forged strong bonds with many of the wine families.

In Labor of Love, Suzanne shares stories of strength and fortitude – two characteristics encoded in the Piemontese DNA – that helped them overcome the challenges and tragedies of pestilence, poverty, fascism, wars, and brutal occupation in the first half of the 20th century. The foundation their ancestors laid and the prosperity built from the ashes of war are helping today’s wine families face the challenges and tragedies of the ongoing war with Covid-19.

Please join Suzanne on
May 29, 2020, at 5.30 pm CDT on a zoom meeting, as she shares some of these stories of the past and the present life of challenges in Langhe, Roero, and Monferrato.
