Join us at the Weisman Museum of Art for a “Made for ICC” tour!

Fairy tales and storytelling are at the core of “The World Before Disney” exhibition on view at the Weisman Museum of Art till July 7. The exhibition is based on the large collection of fairy-tale themed postcards from Jack Zipes, professor emeritus of German and comparative literature at the University of Minnesota.  The tour is an opportunity to see part of this amazing collection but also to revisit some of the most beloved fairy tales and to reflect on how they have evolved over time mirroring and interpreting changes in society.

As we usually do, during the tour we will search for references to Italy. It should not be a difficult task since there is a strong tradition of fairy tales and storytelling in Italy. This tradition is in some ways still alive. This can be seen in the recent reinterpretation of 1600 fairy tales by Giambattista Basile, which was made by renowned Italian film director, Matteo Garrone in his “The Tale of Tales” movie that was presented at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival.

The tour is in English and will be led by Lorella Angelini.

The tour will take place on Wednesday,  June 26, from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. .

Participants will meet at the Weisman’s check in desk.

Lorella Angelini is a tour guide with the Weisman Museum of Art.  She is native of Pesaro in the Marche region. She has been living and working in Minneapolis for the last 20 years.
