The Walker Art Center of Minneapolis is renowned in the U.S. and around the world for its collection of contemporary art.

This month, we offer an opportunity to experience a unique guided tour of the reconstructed lower garden of the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden, one year after its re-opening on June 2017.

Led by Lorella Angelini, the tour will focus on the new sculptures aiming to create a conversation between pieces of art that have concepts or formal elements in common.

The idea of this tour comes from the title of the Walker’s catalog, “Bits & Pieces Put Together To Present A Semblance Of A Whole”.  Lorella has in fact organized the tour as a search for “bits and pieces” of Italy in the featured sculptures. She will take the group through a number of sculptures, including the famed Spoonbridge and Cherry and the new Hahn/Cock while exploring their connections to Italy. Such connection is very strong with Lucio Fontana’s Concetto Spaziale “Natura” (Spatial Concept “Nature”), the only sculpture by an Italian artist currently in the Garden, while it becomes subtler, but still present, with the other sculptures included in the tour.

-------------------------------------

The Tour will take place on Thursday, June 7th, from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. Participants will meet at the Walker Art Center main lobby on Vineland.

The tour will be conducted in English. The same tour is going to be offered in Italian, in September, for native and advanced speakers.

Lorella will be available after the tour for a conversation, at the Esker Grove Restaurant of the Walker Art Center.

Lorella Angelini has been a Tour Guide with the Walker Art Center since 2003. She is a native of Pesaro in Central Italy and has been living in the USA for 20 years moving from Milan to Florida first and then to Minnesota. She holds a summa with laude graduate degree in Civil Engineering from Marche Polytechnic University. Lorella is also a Tour Guide at the Weisman Museum of Art.
