Beginner/Pre-Intermediate Courses

Beginner Courses include Beginning Level 1, Level 2, Level 3, and Level 4. Upon completion, students will proceed to Pre-Intermediate 1 and 2. Description of content for each level is provided below.

To review the courses please scroll down the page to see descriptions. Please note they are displayed in date and time order not in level order. Classes are offered once per week for ten weeks.  The cost of the 10-week session is $294.50 with a required 1 year membership of $40 for an individual.  Membership allows us to offer you a discount on classes as well as various events throughout the year.

In addition, please take note of grammar workshops, as well as other special course offerings which may be available for beginner level students.  Tuition amounts may vary.

    Verbi al presente

    Join us for a two hour workshop focused on verbs in the present tense. Review how to express yourself when describing current events and plans. Lead by our native instructor Paola Disconzi, the workshop is a great opportunity to practice regular/irregular as well as modal and reflexive verbs in meaningful contexts. Prerequisite: Beginning Level 1.

    This is a one time workshop, which will be held on Tuesday, December 5, from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m.  The cost is $35 for members and $45 for non-members. Please register and remit payment here to reserve you place in class.

    All courses must be cancelled at least 72 hours in advance to qualify for a refund, less an administrative fee.

    Grammar Workshop --- Verbo piacere

    Join us for a two hour workshop focused on the verb "piacere". Review how to express your likes and dislikes in the present and past tenses.  Lead by our native instructor Ileana Tamberlani, the workshop is a great opportunity to practice "piacere" in meaningful and communicative contexts, encouraging students to gradually produce more complex sentences by reviewing other basic grammar rules (for example, adjective agreement). Prerequisite: Beginning Level 2. 

    Tuition is $35 for ICC members and $45 for non-members.

      Imperfetto e Passato Prossimo in musica

    This is a two hour class designed to practice the use of imperfetto and passato prossimo and to review the use of both tenses through Italian music (canzoni). 

    Lead by ICC native instructor Luisa O'Gara, students will practice imperfetto and passato prossimo tenses by listening to Italian pop songs in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. You will work on lyrics comprehension and on how the two tenses are used in comparison to English. 

    Pre-requisite: Beginning Level 4 and Pre-Intermediate

    A 60 minute immersion lesson for kids middle to junior high school and also high school. Students will read Italian texts correctly and apply basic rules of grammar when writing sentences or paragraphs. Special attention will be devoted to verbal forms (indefinito e indicativo presente). A wide variety of topics and cultural elements will guide the students to practice and refine their oral and written communication skills.

    Important Messages:

    The ICC requires a minimum of 4 students in any group class.  When enrollment drops below this number, the families will be offered the option of remitting a tuition supplement.  If all involved families agree to the supplement, the class can materialize.

    Membership: Committee of the ICC has adopted a policy requiring membership for all language classes. Membership allows lower rates on classes than previously charged for non-member registration. Plus, membership includes discounts on other classes and events, as well as other benefits. Family membership is recommended, which covers parents and children.
